This weekend we celebrated the best in mystery writing for the previous year, including a few of our very own MWA Midwest members!

At the Edgar Awards in New York, we celebrated these nominees:

-Nick Petrie for Best First Novel, The Drifter

-Lili Wright for Best First Novel, Dancing with the Tiger

-Patricia Abbott for Best Paperback Original, Shot in Detroit

-Laura Benedict for Best Short Story, “A Paler Shade of Death,” St. Louis Noir

-Susan Vaught for Best Juvenile Mystery, Things Too Huge to Fix by Saying Sorry

…as well as the two new Grand Masters of MWA, Ellen Hart and Max Allan Collins, both members of our Midwest Chapter!

And in a surprise ambush, PJ Parrish received the Charles Todd Award for Service to Mystery Writers of America. PJ Parrish is the pseudonym writing sisters Kelly Nichols and Kristy Montee. Kelly Nichols is a member of MWA Midwest!

 

At Malice Domestic in Bethesda, Maryland, we celebrated these nominees:

-Victoria Thompson, Best Historical Novel, Murder in Morningside Heights

-Margaret Kinsman, Best Non-fiction, Sara Paretsky: Companion to the Mystery Fiction
